Frequently Asked Questions
Why Aquamation For Exotics?
The photo below shows the cremains of a small Cockatiel prior to the bone processed into a fine powder.
There is no process on earth that is as gentle and as clean as aquamation for the disposition of animals, especially all small exotics.
Looking closely, you can see the bone definition and visually see how clean the bone is. The bottom middle shows the perfect beak of the Cockatiel. Because the bones are so delicate, we process the remaining bones into a powder prior to placing them in any of our quality urns available.
Small exotics are a specialty for us. We can provide ashes back no matter how small the animal. A flame crematory cannot compete in this area because of the high heat generated from an 1800 degree oven.
Think this through for a moment;
The temperature of the flame cremation oven directly affects the strength of the upward air convection current. A hotter fire produces more heat energy, resulting in a stronger upward draft of hot air and smoke through the chimney. We actually have the mathematical formula below!.
During fire cremation, the heat will rise to about 1,800 degrees. In a controlled flame cremation environment, 1800 degree heat is funneled up a smoke stack. It stands to reason that the upward force of such high heat is tremendous. Since a cockatiel’s weight is measured in grams, or equivalent to about 4 ounces, what can possibly be left after the flame cremation process is complete?
For those of you that don’t need a mathematical explanation, here is a simple example of the force of rising heat most of us have experienced.
Have you ever opened your oven door at home to check on something and felt the intense heat rush to hit your face? You needed to back away immediately. Consider 1800 degrees, you wouldn’t survive it and neither would your exotic.
Here is a 45 second video illustrating how gentle the aquamation process is without fire; The Gentleness of Aquamation
What happens inside a high temperature crematory setting?
In an1800 degree crematory oven, what speed is the upward force of hot air coming from the crematory oven up through the chimney?
Let’s perform the calculation with these values.
The estimated speed of hot air rising up the chimney in a flame crematory setting with an inside temperature of 1800°F and an ambient outside temperature of 20°C, (70 degrees Fahrenheit) and with a chimney height of 10 meters, is approximately 25.38 meters per second. (or the heated air is rising at a pace of 83.26 ft per second!) That’s equivalent to over 56 miles per hour!
This calculation provides a basic estimate; actual speeds can vary based on chimney design, the precise temperature gradient, and other environmental factors but hot air blowing at a force of over 56 miles per hour can expect roofs to encounter structural damage and small trees risk being blown over.
Considering the math, on small animals of any kind, using flame cremation, it’s a legitimate question to ask; what are you really getting back in the form of ash?
To be absolutely fair, modern flame cremation equipment may include features and modifications that help ensure proper handling of remains. These systems may involve filters or other mechanisms to capture and retain the remains, but there are two huge factors to consider;
Simply, the harshness of flame cremation cannot compete with the gentleness of water.
For those interested in the actual math, let’s perform the calculation using the following framework; .
To estimate the speed of hot air rising inside a crematory chimney, we can use the principle of buoyancy, which drives the airflow, and the formula derived from Bernoulli’s principle for the velocity of fluid flow. The speed of the hot air can be estimated by considering the chimney as a vertical column where hot air rises due to the difference in density between the hot air inside the chimney and the cooler ambient air outside.
To convert temperatures from Celsius to Kelvin, you add 273.15 to the Celsius temperature.
Assuming an outside ambient temperature of 20°C (which is 293.15K) and an inside temperature of 1800°F (which converts to 982.22°C or 1255.37K), and assuming a generic chimney height, let’s say 10 meters for the sake of calculation, we can estimate the speed of the hot air. Based upon this calculation,heated air in a flame crematory setting is rising at a pace of 83.26 ft per second!) That’s equivalent to over 56 miles per hour,
The Top 4 Advantages of Pet Aquamation
Aquamation is an advanced form of cremation that accelerates the breakdown of organic materials in a natural, eco-friendly way. What can take 3 months to 5 years in nature, Aquamation or water cremation only takes 20 hours to complete.
Through Aquamation, there is never smoke discharged into the atmosphere. There is no incineration, no fire and never any burning. At the end of the Aquamation process the only remains left are bone and a nutrient rich liquid from the body of our pets that have been tested and analyzed to be an excellent fertilizer. The bones (or ash as some people call it) are then dried and processed into a powder for return to your family in one of our beautiful urns.

Creating New Life Through Aquamation
The benefit of Aquamation achieves the greater purpose of giving new life to the earth from the body of our pets. During the 20 hour cycle of aquamation, water molecules change the composition and structure of the pet to create a new substance, a rich organic liquid that has been tested and analyzed to be an effective natural fertilizer. This natural substance, derived from our pets, can be recycled back into nature without any negative environmental consequences to our planet! Learn more from our website; or watch the video below;
